Abstract background

Members of EveryMan Australia’s Counselling and Violence Prevention Services teams recently attended the Engaging Men & Boys to End the Cycle of Violence Conference in New South Wales, hosted by The Hatchery. This event brought together leading practitioners, researchers, and advocates working to address domestic and family violence with a particular focus on engaging men in prevention and intervention efforts.

The conference provided a critical platform to explore innovative strategies in working with men who use violence while also reinforcing the importance of accountability, behaviour change, and holistic support. Key discussions centred around early intervention, effective therapeutic approaches, and the intersection of mental health and DFV services.

Greg Aldridge, CEO of EveryMan, said EveryMan Australia’s involvement in this conference aligns with our ongoing commitment to supporting men in making meaningful changes in their lives, ultimately fostering safer communities for women, children, and families.

“By participating in these conversations, our team stays at the forefront of emerging research, best practices, and collaborative approaches that enhance our service delivery.”

Josh, Manager of EveryMan's Justice Transitions and Violence Prevention Services, emphasised the importance of more profound engagement with men beyond surface behaviours.

"We need to engage with men in a way that moves beyond what we see on the outside. Events like this ensure we are part of the conversation on working with men who use violence and help us develop collaborations to address the intersecting challenges they face," Josh said.

Throughout the event, experts shared insights on trauma-informed counselling, culturally responsive programs, and the role of community partnerships in addressing DFV. These learnings will further inform EveryMan’s tailored interventions for men who seek to break the cycle of violence and take responsibility for their actions.

Attending this conference strengthens our ability to provide high-quality, evidence-based support to the men we work with. It also reinforces our dedication to fostering respectful relationships and preventing future harm.

EveryMan remains committed to continuous learning and collaboration to enhance our violence prevention services.
