Program
EveryMan provides specialist support to men and others who have issues with violence and abusive behaviour - towards partners and family, or in other settings, e.g. workplaces or public places. We also support people who have experienced family or other violence.
We work with people towards real outcomes that reduce violence. Effective support leads to improvements for the people using violence as well as for their families and their communities.
We have two ongoing programs specifically for violence prevention.
Working With the Man
This program is a specialist behaviour change program for men who have been violent to women. The program offers a full range of resources to build the capacity for participants to make lasting changes. Participants volunteer for the program and must acknowledge and take responsibility for their behaviour before they can be accepted.
Preventing Violence, Changing Behaviour
In this twelve-week program, we work with participants in a group environment to address violent behaviour. By using cognitive-behavioural techniques, participants learn how to make lasting changes. The program stresses accountability and responsibility. It is more than anger management; it focusses on the bigger picture.
PLEASE NOTE
We give top priority to the safety of partners, children and other members of a participant's family at all times. Services supporting partners and children help us assess whether changes in your behaviour and relationships are helping them feel safer. Consequently risk assessment will be an ongoing process.
Connect & Support
If you feel that you are at risk of being violent to a family member or need to discuss issues that are placing your partner and/or family at harm, call Connect & Support on 0479 018 021. You can have a conversation with a violence prevention specialist to discuss strategies that will keep your family safe and discuss ongoing supports through one of our programs.
Please note this service is only available from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. If we are unable to take your call immediately leave a message and we will respond as soon as we possibly can. If the matter is urgent, please call 000.
Partner Advocacy and Support
Partner Advocacy & Support is a dedicated free and confidential service for former or current intimate partners and adult family members who have been harmed or are at risk of harm by a participant in WWM, PVCB, or receiving specialist counselling for their use or risk of use of violence.
EveryMan understands that people subjected to domestic, family and intimate partner violence can often feel isolated. Partner Advocacy & Support works to address this isolation by providing a safe place for people to talk about the relationship, their experiences, concerns, hopes and dreams, free of judgement, opinion or repercussion.
Criteria
These programs are available to men and others living in the ACT and region who have used violence or are at serious risk of using violence, particularly within intimate partner and family relationships. However people with similar problems in other settings (e.g. workplace, social environments) are equally eligible for support.
Process
Men and others can enter our Violence Prevention programs through one of three pathways:
- a court order or recommendation
- referral from an ACT government agency or community organisation
- self-referral
Working With the Man (WWM)
For men (and others) using violence and controlling behaviour with intimate partners, and/or with other family).
Agencies or individuals wanting to access services can use the WWM referral web form.
Preventing Violence, Changing Behaviour (PVCB)
A twelve-week group program for men who are using violence or intimidating and controlling behaviour with partners or family, or in other settings.
People from other agencies, private services, or people wishing to access PVCB for themselves can use our general referral web form or call us direct on 02 6230 6999.
Partner Advocacy and Support (PAS)
A support program for partners of men who are in EveryMan programs because of their use of violence or intimidating and controlling behaviour with partners or family.
Partners are contacted and offered the PAS service at the time the man is entering the EveryMan program.
Participation in PAS is not compulsory for partners - they get to choose. However the man's agreement to their partner's participation may be a condition of entry to WWM or PVCB.
Costs
There is no charge for the Working With the Man service. However, participants accessing additional counselling and group work programs are asked to consider making a financial contribution at a level proportional to income. EveryMan will consider financial issues so that access to these services is not contingent on ability to pay.
If WWM participants require other community services, the cost of these services will be the responsibility of the participant.
Waiting lists
We only have a limited number of places, so you may want to call us to get more information about vacancies and waiting lists before sending a referral form.
For information please contact our office on (02) 6230 6999 during office hours.
