Greg Australian Award

EveryMan proudly celebrates a significant milestone this month as CEO, Greg Aldridge marks his 20th anniversary with the organisation. Greg, a registered psychologist, and dedicated advocate for men with high and complex support needs and violence prevention services, has been a cornerstone of EveryMan Australia since the organisation's conception in 1998.

Throughout his career which began in 1977, Greg has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the community sector. His extensive experience spans complex case management, counselling, family therapy, and consultation across health, welfare, mental health, education, and legal services.

In 2004, Greg was appointed co-director of EveryMan alongside co-founder Gerald Franks and later took on the role of Chief Executive Officer in 2015. Under his leadership, EveryMan has expanded its reach and impact, particularly in supporting men at risk of homelessness, living with mental health issues, disabilities, and those involved with the justice and child protection systems. Additionally, Greg has overseen the development of violence prevention services, including EveryMan’s men's behaviour change programs and partner advocacy and support for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Describing himself as a "fellow traveller to feminism," Greg has also been instrumental in developing innovative gendered services partnerships.

EveryMan's programs reflect Greg's vision, providing critical support to men who are perpetrators or survivors of violence, those experiencing significant relationship difficulties, and men who are socially isolated or struggling with complex mental health challenges and their partnership or parenting roles.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, Greg was nominated for the Senior Australian of the Year award in 2022. More recently, he was honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his tireless work in the community sector.

On receiving the OAM, Greg remarked, "This honour is not really about me at all but about my work and the work of my organisation."

Greg's journey began early; he set up his first refuge in Adelaide at the age of 21. His colleagues describe him as a fierce, humble, authentic, and supportive leader. His approachable nature and commitment to professional and personal development have left an indelible mark on the industry, organisation, and its staff.

In the words of Greg himself,

‘Every man needs a hand sometimes. What’s missing for many men, particularly the ones with really high and complex  support needs, is an agency that’s committed them as men, committed to helping them in the areas of life that really matter to them by having access to professional and effective services that can really make a difference  -  to them and to the people in their lives.

Looking ahead, EveryMan aims to extend its client reach and community impact through both its Men's Accommodation and Support Service (MASS) and Violence Prevention Services (VPS).

“I am committed to continuing the work of EveryMan to improve the lives of men, families, and children in the Canberra community.

By expanding these critical services, we strive to provide even greater support to those in need, fostering safer and healthier relationships, and ultimately contributing to the well-being of the entire community.”
