Although domestic and family violence affects individuals, families, and communities irrespective of gender, the Canberra organisation EveryMan is demanding that men must not stay silent on the issue. While much emphasis has rightly been placed on supporting victims, it is crucial to acknowledge the role of men in supporting the prevention and acknowledgment of domestic and family violence.
In response to another life lost today, EveryMan is reaffirming its commitment to fostering healthy masculinity and supporting men in their journey toward positive change, standing at the forefront of this crucial societal shift.
EveryMan provides Violence Prevention Services that are aimed at delivering behaviour change programs and resources designed to engage men in this vital conversation. From 1-1 engagement to counselling and large peer support groups, the organisation offers pathways for men to explore their beliefs, stop violent behaviours, and recognise their responsibilities to decrease domestic and family violence in the Canberra community.
"We believe that men have a crucial role to play in ending domestic and family violence," says Greg Aldridge, Chief Executive Officer at EveryMan.
"As men, we have a responsibility to call out other men when they perpetuate violence against women. Silence only enables the cycle of abuse. It's time for men to stand up and speak out for the safety and dignity of all women."
"By encouraging men to recognise the signs of abuse, to support those affected, and to hold themselves and others accountable, we can create safer, more respectful communities for everyone."
EveryMan recognises the importance of amplifying men's voices in the discourse surrounding domestic and family violence. Through education, advocacy, and support services, EveryMan empowers men to confront harmful behaviours, challenge toxic masculinity, and cultivate healthier relationships.
“We partner with stakeholders across various sectors and works towards systemic change, advocating for policies and initiatives that address the root causes of domestic and family violence.”
“As the call for men's involvement in ending violence grows louder, we remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting empathy, accountability, and positive masculinity.”
